What is the solution to the current crisis our country faces? I don't pretend to know the answers but there are a few things I do know. First, let me start by saying I consider myself a liberal. I support human rights and the right to make our own decisions. That being said, I do not support giving out free money to people who are too lazy to work. I understand that people are victims of their circumstances, but I believe there are many programs to help them change and be a better person.
I have a family member that draws disability and drives an almost new corvette. I also have a friend who recently got laid off and makes almost as much as me drawing unemployment. I thoroughly support the fact that she gets unemployment but I do not think it should be so much that she does not even feel the effects. By doing this we encourage people to not go back to work. I also know people who need disability who are having trouble getting it. This leads me to wonder what the heck is going on and what can we do to fix it?
First I think instead of pooring more money into welfare and unemployment benefits, we need to crack down and take more time to investigate and initiate change. Drug tests for welfare are a must. Also, as inhumane as it may sound, some of these people may end up on the street. I know it is in our nature to care for the less fortunate but I AM SICK AND TIRED of my paycheck supporting lazy people! But you know what? Living on the street may give these people the swift kick in the pants they need. Also, if they already have two kids and are on welfare then they should be made to get and IUD or maybe even get their tubes tied or a vasectomy. That may sound wrong but some of these people keep having kids to get benefits. We can invest more money into children's homes for those children that are the victim of their parent's lifestyle.
Our other big reform has to be on insurance. The last time I checked insurance was there to help us out when we had medical expenses. That is almost comical since insurance eats $100.00 of my check each week. By the time I pay for my "insurance" and all the deductibles and things it does not cover I am broke. Granted, medical expenses are too high on their own. Why is this? Because we are a sue happy country and the doctors have to carry malpractice insurance which again is way over-priced. What can we do to change this? We can start by revamping our judicial system when it comes to medicine. Of course we never want a mistake to cost someone their life, but what is a reasonable place to draw the line. Doctors are only human just like me or you, right?
